Ron (Ringo) Bowen began piping in 1971 at age 20. The following year made the jump to Waterloo Regional Police Pipe Band, a top Grade 1 band in the Ontario circuit, where he played for several years before taking a five year leave. He returned in 1985 and played with the vaunted Clan MacFarlane Pipe Band until 1993. Following that he served as PM of Niagara Police Pipe Band and later went on to play with two top Grade 2 bands, Dofasco and Niagara Police Pipe Band.
He is the author of Care and Maintenance of the Great Highland Bagpipe. He also built and maintains The Bagpipe Place, one of the most informative bagpipe sites on the Internet. Ringo's strength is in the preparation and presentation of the bagpipe. He is a world authority on the identification and restoration of old bagpipes. He is an expert in reed manipulation and in getting the most from your bagpipe.
Ron is currently the piping instructor at St John’s Northwestern Military Academy in Delafield, Wisconsin. |
